On Friday, April 27, explore contemporary art at the New Museum during our annual Teen Night! Grab your friends and enjoy a special evening exclusively for teens, featuring art-making and teen-led gallery experiences inspired by the 2018 Triennial: “Songs for Sabotage.” Throughout the evening, teens can add to a collaborative sculpture in the Sky Room or help conduct an interview with Triennial artist Diamond Stingily. Finally, end the night with a performance by New York rapper MIKE. MIKE’s deep baritone offers savvy and intimate observations of New York City life over otherworldly samples. Part of the hip-hop collective sLUms, MIKE released his acclaimed mixtape May God Bless Your Hustle, featuring Standing on the Corner and Wiki of Ratking, last year. His work has been praised by many as a force reinvigorating hip-hop among youth in New York, with write-ups in the Fader, Nylon, and Pitchfork. Noisey said of his latest release, “A tug-of-war between dark and uplifting moments makes resistance man feel like the 19-year-old’s most exciting work yet.”
Teen Night is free and open to teens aged fourteen to nineteen with high school or government ID. No preregistration is required. Please leave all backpacks and bags at home! If you need to bring one along, it must be checked on arrival.
The New Museum’s mission is to promote new art and new ideas. School and Teen Programs utilize the Museum as a resource to enhance learning and engage high school students through the exploration of contemporary art in relation to local, global, and cultural issues that affect their lives. Teen Night at the New Museum is a teen program developed in collaboration with the NYC Museum Teen Summit. The NYC Museum Teen Summit is a collective of youth leaders in New York dedicated to improving and promoting the role of youth engagement in cultural spaces.
