A livestream of the conversation will be available here.

Join renowned writer and scholar Maggie Nelson as she responds to Sarah Lucas’s work and to the exhibition “Sarah Lucas: Au Naturel,” the first American survey of Lucas’s work. Known for her genre-defying writing that often weaves together personal narrative and critical theory, Nelson brings a unique voice to art criticism. Her talk will plumb the provocations, humor, and critical shape-shifting in Lucas’s practice and will reflect on the stakes of the artist’s embrace of pleasure and perversion.

Maggie Nelson is the author of nine books of poetry and prose, including the National Book Critics Circle Award winner The Argonauts (2015), The Art of Cruelty: A Reckoning (2011), Bluets (2009), The Red Parts: Autobiography of a Trial (2007), and Jane: A Murder (2005). She has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Nonfiction, an NEA Fellowship in Poetry, an Innovative Literature Fellowship from Creative Capital, and an Arts Writers Fellowship from the Andy Warhol Foundation. In 2016, she was awarded a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship. She lives in Los Angeles.
