New Museum will host the premiere of Gogo Graham’s FW19 collection, “Eternal Peep Show,” presented against the view of the city from the museum’s Sky Room. The collection is a story about a aspiring bride who will never be married—a woman trapped in constant internal negotiation over how much of her body and its image she is willing to reveal, manipulate, and alter in order to get what she needs. Swaddled in found scraps and heartache, she walks down the aisle donning garments in which she could be either married or buried.
Since its inception in 2014, Graham’s eponymous label has garnered attention as the first to feature only trans models and to be designed and produced solely by a trans woman. The label’s mission is to responsibly facilitate economic empowerment and distribution of financial capital to TGNC/NB (trans/gender non-conforming/non-binary) femmes with an emphasis on prioritizing femmes of color. Special attention is given to properly fit clothes on individual bodies that often do not conform to the industry’s exclusionary sizes and fit range.
