Join us for a special Family Day in conjunction with the exhibition “Trigger: Gender as a Tool and a Weapon,” on view at the New Museum from September 27, 2017, to January 21, 2018. Families will get inspired by exploring artist Liz Collins’s work Cave of Secrets (2017), on view on the Second Floor of “Trigger.” For her installation, Collins transformed a long, narrow space into an environment for congregation and quiet conversation. In the Sky Room, families will work with the artist to create an intimate gathering space using a variety of materials. Participants will be invited to leave a secret message or code using line, color, pattern, and texture.
New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children aged between four and twelve years, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited, and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
Liz Collins is an artist and designer living in Brooklyn, NY. Blurring the often-gendered boundaries that have historically been used to distinguish between craft, design, and art, Collins situates her work within a lineage of feminist art practices that have brought textiles and fiber arts into a gallery setting. She creates site-specific installations that encourage an experience of wonder and connection to vibrant energy through a play of bold formal elements, such as surprising color combinations, varied textures, and vivid patterns.
