The songs on DonChristian’s new album Where There’s Smoke (2018) create urban dreamscapes that defy genre and quickly slip between moods, serving as visionary reflections of our contemporary moment. His performances and music videos, reveling in rich layers of images and sound, nod to sources ranging from Caravaggio’s painting Judith Beheading Holofernes (1599) to House of Ladosha’s tantalizing video installation This is UR Brain (2016). DonChristian’s lyrics are emotionally raw and fiercely critical of our political climate, deftly weaving together the stories and voices of queer, trans, and feminist icons. A consummate collaborator, DonChristian has included the musical talents of BbyMutha, Ms. Boogie, Chae Buttuh, Cinque Kemp, and Eartheater on his new album.
The New Museum is thrilled to present an intimate performance by DonChristian of songs from Where There’s Smoke in the New Museum’s Sky Room, featuring visuals by Julian Sharifi. Join us for a spectacular view of the city at sunset and a cash bar.
